I would like to stress that this blog is based on my point of view and it's up to viewers' discern.
I personally felt that this show was full of moral values... minus the illogical laws of physics. One of the most important message send is that life is short, there are many unforeseeable circumstances that might take place in life. We should live life to the fullest and do whatever things we want to do before it's too late. If we get the chance to do the very things that we have always wanted to do, why not give it a shot? (This does not include illegal activities such as thievery, murder, arson and the likes of it.) If we would to do things that we are not proud of, repent, and action speaks louder than words, that means DO and not just SAY!
Like all Hollywood film, love is always one of the main theme that will be displayed. Love in this case does not only refer to couple love but it extends to family love, love for others, love for the country and even infidel love. This value is clearly exhibited by the President Thomas where he cares for his late wife, his daughter, and his people. He is willing to stay behind and suffer although he knew the consequences of staying behind. Although he doesn't know first aid or rescue aid, yet he is willing to open his place for casualties. This moral value is not only portrayed by him alone but everyone that are suffering.
Another typical value that often shown in Hollywood films, sacrifice. Sasha, the pilot, is willing to sacrifice himself to save everyone on board, despite the ungratefulness of his employer, Yuri.
Hate to say this but, it's true that the world is NEVER fair. And people will ask selfishly in any possible way to obtain their goal. I mean, what are the odds of meeting someone so selfless that he/she is willing to give in every time to everyone? There will be bound to have at least one time where he/she will say "No". It is also very true that people with power and money will be given the utmost priority in society. And yes, there will always be a hierarchy of power. Discrimination will happen everywhere. But come to think of it, why all this "unfairness" happen everywhere? Simple, culture norm. In this world, those that are more "adaptable" will be able to survive. Competition will always be there.
Then there is "sanity vs insanity". I always wonder whether should I consider Charlie sane or insane? I went for a seminar once and the lecturer told us this, "when your predictions are correct, you are called 'lucky'; but when the thing fails, you are called stupidity!" By social norm, End of The World will perceived as never to occur, and Charlie is called insane. But when it occurs...
What I learn is that we should never underestimate anyone. Though involuntarily we will discriminate him, but always weigh and consider, be it possible or impossible, then rule out what you think is "wrong".
Lastly, at the end of the show, I interpreted the final scene, that we should always be ready for new things in life. Yes, no doubt that fear and anxiety will always be there when we face the uncertainties, but as a family, with the help of friends, we can always help each other, bring up each others' spirit, to face a brand new world out there.
I repeat that this are all my personal point of views and the movie is entirely up to viewers' discern.
